Important link in KC-area's Indian Creek Trail opens Saturday
From Dale Crawford, Advocacy Chair of the Johnson County Bicycle Club:
On October 4, 2003, at 10:00 AM, the Overland Park, Leawood, Olathe, Johnson County and Johnson County Park & Recreation District will officially dedicate the connection of Indian Creek Trail link the east and west segments. The ceremony will start at Quivera Park, 120th & Quivera and will commence with a short ride/walk to the newly completed trail segment on the west side of the Indian Creek bridge at 119th Street/Quivera. All are encouraged to attend. There will be light refreshments provided.
Indian Creek Trail was started in 1976 by Overland Park in Roe Park (the loop trail by the swimming pool) and completed this week, literally with the backfill grading of retaining walls and trails under the bridge. Indian Creek Trail represents the "grandfather/mother" of trail in Greater Kansas City. Please join in the festivities and enjoy a ride on the trail.
Please note this does not mean the Indian Creek Trail is complete. Olathe has plans to extend it further south and west eventually connecting to proposed trails on Coffee Creek and Cedar Creek. Kansas City, MO, has equally ambitious plans to extend the trail to the Blue River and the Trolley Track Trail.
The Johnson County web site has
a map of Johnson County trails, including the Indian Creek Trail.
