Trail network slowly connecting in Kansas City area
Three new multi-use trail segments have opened in the Kansas City area over the past several weeks. The
Kansas City Star has an article today about the growth and future of the area's trail network:
In the past two years, 34 miles of major recreational trails have been added in the seven-county region, bringing the area's total to 127 miles, according to regional planners at the Mid-America Regional Council.
But all those paved paths for runners, walkers and bikers still represent just 10 percent of a proposed 1,150-mile interconnected system called Metro Green. . . .
Metropolitan polls done for the regional council the past few years continually show upward of 80 percent of area respondents want more places to bike and walk.
Another recent KCStar article discusses what is needed to take MetroGreen into the future.
