MoBikeFed has been leading a campaign to make make bicycle and pedestrian issues part of the MoDOT director search process and part of the job description. Now MoDOT has put together a team to search for the new MoDOT Director, according to a story by John Davis:

The State Highway Commission has put together a seven member team to search for a new State Transportation Director. Members of the team include highway commissioners, a MoDOT engineer, state lawmakers, a representative from the Governor's office, and an executive search firm. Some qualifications for candidates will include an extensive background in the transportation industry, progressive and proven leadership abilities, and a high degree of political abilities. The search firm will come up with a long list of candidates, pare it down to just a handful for the Highway Commission to interview. Meanwhile, the seven person search team will be able to look at the finalists' resumes, but won't do any face-to-face interviewing. Some team members express some concern about that part of the process and say that might be changed.

In a related story, from KYTV in Springfield:

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission announced Tuesday morning that the department's interim director is Dave Snider. He retired from MoDOT as director of operations in 1999.

Henry Hungerbeeler announced in December that he would resign as MoDOT director, effective June 1. The commission said Tuesday that Hungerbeeler's last day will be March 1.

Snider likely will serve as interim director for four to six months while the commission searches for a permanent replacement.
