MO reps Blunt and Akins oppose federal highway bill
Missouri Representative Blunt, the House Majority Whip, and Representative Akin, both voted against the federal transportation bill the House passed this week. President Bush has threatened to veto the legislation because it is several billion dollars above the administration's budget target.

Akron Beacon Journal article has more details and includes this information about Akin's reasoning:
Akin said some projects in other districts were wasteful.
"There is a disturbing level of unnecessary funding for non-highway projects, such as bike paths and museums that have nothing to do with America's critical transportation needs," Akin said in a statement.
