Governor to sign law to help with trail liability
A
Kansas City Star article reports that Missouri's Governor Bob Holden is planning to sign a new law giving immunity to landowners adjoining recreational trails.
MoBikeFed has supported this bill--thanks to those of you who took the time to write or call the governor in support of it. Those efforts paid off!
According to the Star article, the new law is important for two reasons:
It would relieve owners of the concern they could be sued by people using trails on their land or on nearby property.
And it should spur more cities and counties to work out agreements with levee districts to use some of their land for pathways. . . .
The new law is modeled after one that already shields owners along Missouri's Katy Trail from legal problems. That pathway has been a great success.
