Jim Cessna of Olathe has an interesting idea in a letter to the editor in today's KCStar: The price of gasoline is nearing $2 per gallon. I think it's about time for another gas war. The filling stations would be forced to bring the price of gasoline down if the consumer used less gasoline.
Take the money you would normally spend on vacation gasoline and treat the family to a train-ride vacation. Or let this be the year the whole family buys bicycles and takes day trips on two wheels.
Maybe do both. Put your bicycles in the baggage car, while you enjoy the train ride. Then you'd have transportation at your destination.
