First ever Kansas City bicycling map available now
Friday, August 20, 2004
The first comprehensive map of the Kansas City region's bicycle facilities is now available to citizens at no cost from the Mid-America Regional Council.

The map shows existing on- and off-road facilities in the seven-county region, and facilities planned for completion by summer 2006. The seven counties included on the map are Cass, Clay, Jackson and Platte in Missouri and Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte in Kansas.

The map also contains safety information and a run-down of great places to bike and walk in the Kansas City region, including newer facilities like the Riverfront Heritage Trail system and the Kaw Point Trail in Kansas City, Kan. Results from last year's Favorite Places campaign, which asked citizens to vote for the best places to bike and walk in the region, are also featured with directions for those who want to explore the region's more popular parks and trails.

The Kansas City area is quickly becoming a great place to get around on bicycle. Ambitious initiatives such as Bike KC, MetroGreen and the Riverfront Heritage Trail are making headway on plans to connect the region with trails and hundreds of miles of safe, on-road facilities. The new bike map clearly shows how far these initiatives have come to connect the region, while showing that much more is coming soon.

Maps may be ordered online at on the MARC web site, or by calling 816/474-4240.

A downloadable version of the map in PDF format will be available in the near future.
