Ed Chasteen fights for bicycling in Lawson
The KCStar's Mike Hendricks wrote a
column recently about Ed Chasteen's work to make Lawson, MO, friendlier for bicyclists. Lawson has banned bicyclists from a few blocks of its central business district since 1970 and has recently issued tickets or warnings to several cyclists riding there, including Ed:
And to all this he brings passion, to an extent that can make Ed Chasteen seem like a real pain in the neck if, by some form of injustice, you get on his bad side.
The cops in Lawson, Mo., did just that recently when they issued him a parking ticket.
For his bicycle.
Now, most of us would pay the fine and go on.
But Chasteen vowed to go to jail rather than pay a nickel. He hired a lawyer, threatened a lawsuit and last weekend led a protest, which he billed as “Gandhi rides to Lawson.”
