Missouri Bicycle Federation recognizes Terry Whaley and Dawne Gardner of Springfield
Thursday, November 18, 2004
The Missouri Bicycle Federation, a statewide bicycle advocacy organization, will recognize two Springfield citizens with "Distinguished Service to Bicycling" awards Thursday. The two have been champions for bicycling in the Springfield area.

Dawne Gardner, a MoDOT employee, has demonstrated her willingness to make Springfield a more bicycle and pedestrian friendly community time and time again. She leads the effort to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians by sitting on several committees and by advocating for the programming of funds for these two modes of travel. In addition to her regional focus, she is a member of the MoDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee where she serves as Secretary. Gardner keeps her district and community informed regarding statewide issues and communicates regularly the news from Springfield to other state agencies, local governments and bicycle advocates.

Terry Whaley, Executive Director of Ozark Greenways, is a tireless champion for bicycling and walking. His number one goal is to build trails in Springfield. Whaley is the force behind the creation of more than 25 miles of shared use paths that wonderfully accommodate both bicyclists and pedestrians for transportation and recreation. He sits on several committees and networks with people across the state via the MoDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. Whaley freely shares his successes with others to enable them to achieve success as well. Whaley grew up in Lockwood, MO, and is a graduate of SMSU.

The awards will be presented by Coy Hart, a member of the Missouri Bicycle Federation Board of Directors and MoBikeFed's Bicycle Education Chair.

The Missouri Bicycle Federation, Inc., is statewide, not-for-profit, membership organization that advocates advancement of bicycling access, safety, and education in Missouri. More information about the Missouri Bicycle Federation and its advocacy efforts is available online at MOBikeFed.org.

Bicyclists may nominate local bicycle advocates and individuals or public officials who have been particularly friendly to bicycling for Missouri Bicycle Federation awards. Contact any MoBikeFed board member for details.
