PedNet's past and future--making Columbia a model bike/ped friendly city

PedNet:
Five years ago, a new grass-roots group called the PedNet Coalition unveiled a 20-year plan to make Columbia a walkers’ and bicyclists’ haven.
The vision was, and still is, to create a linked network of trails and sidewalks that would allow a person to safely get to anywhere in the city without a car.
The Columbia City Council signed on. The Columbia Area Transportation Study Organization agreed with conceptual plans. Even some developers now are supporting PedNet’s goals.
Today at the city’s Earth Day Festival in Peace Park, the private not-for-profit group is celebrating its fifth anniversary. It boasts 4,600 members.
