Organize a Ride of Silence in your community May 17th, 2006
Missouri Bicyclists,
Please consider organizing and/or participating in a Ride of Silence in your own community on May 17, 2006, starting at 7PM.
You know that we have been holding the "Ride of Silence" in various locations around Missouri the past couple of years. It is an international event that has been steadily growing in size over the years.
I hope this year that we may consider increasing the number of locations in Missouri and also doing a better job of getting the word out earlier so that we have more participants.
I've participated in the Ride of Silence the past two years and it has been a really good and powerful event.
It's not pushy or confrontational but it helps assert our right to use the public roadways safely. It honors those who have been injured or killed on the roadway.
We have, unfortunately, had some tragic injuries and deaths this year in Missouri--Mike Katz, Robert Osborn, James Northcraft, and several others who have been killed or seriously injured.
One thing we can do to honor their memory is do what we can to make our roads safer in the future. We have much work here in Missouri.
You can find out more about the Ride of Silence and enter a new location into the ride database at
RideOfSilence.org.
