Advocacy:
Paseo Bridge Bike/Ped Access: MoDOT is building a new quarter billion dollar bridge in the heart of Kansas City. It could provide the first safe bicycle/pedestrian crossing of the Missouri River near downtown Kansas City. We've been working on this for years and now it's going to move or die forever in the next month or so.
Advocacy:
Hwy 45 Bike/Ped Access: MoDOT is building a new highway through Parkville, Missouri. Guess what--their plans for accommodating bicycling and walking are inadequate, plus they forgot to include any funding for them.
Advocacy:
Bicycling License Plate: Many other states have 'Share the Road with Bicycles' license plates. Why not Missouri, too? In 1 minute you can show your support.
4 MAY 2006: Support the Bicycle Commuters Benefits Act
Thursday, May 04, 2006
Bikes Belong is asking us to write our two U.S. Senators to support the Bicycle Commuters Benefits Act:
Many employers already offer this type of program to their employees who use transit or carpool. So this is a logical extension of that existing program.
And we know that this type of incentive, simple though it is, is one thing that actually changes people's behavior.
Details:
Dear Bikes Belong Member,
Please help us encourage bicycle commuting by calling your state's two U.S. senators as soon as possible to ask them to co-sponsor the Bicycle Commuters Benefits Act.
This proposed federal legislation would give employers the option of reimbursing employees who commute by bicycle $40 $100 per month tax-free. If enacted into law, this bill will inspire more Americans to ride bikes to work and encourage current bike commuters to continue.
This bill could be considered by the full U.S. Senate during the next few weeks. Your phone call expressing support will be timely and important.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Call the D.C. offices of your state's two U.S. senators.
Say that you want to encourage the senators to co-sponsor the Bicycle Commuters Benefits Act, S. 2635, which was introduced by Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon on April 24. Be sure to provide your name, address, and business affiliation.
Act now! Your phone call will build momentum for this legislation that will help get more Americans riding bicycles more often.
