$3/gallon gas here to stay
According to this St. Louis Post-Dispatch article, $3/gallon gas is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Why not use it as a reason to consider bicycling, walking, or using transit more.
Even commuting one day a week via bike, bus, walking, or some combination helps both your pocketbook and your health.
Or replace short trips and errands by walking or bicycling--say, walk to lunch or on those 1- to 3-mile trips to the bank, the grocery store, the post office, to visit friends.
Or go shopping in an area where you can walk from store to store--making one motorized trip and 5 walking trips rather than 6 motor trips.
The first three miles of any trip are the most polluting and the hardest on your automobile in wear and tear--so replacing those short car trips counts for more than you think.
