Parks and Soils Tax passes
According to a KCStar story:
Missourians Tuesday widely embraced a constitutional amendment that would allow for an automatic public vote every 10 years on a tax for state parks and soil preservation.
With 86.9 percent of precincts reporting by early today, the measure was passing with 69.6 percent of the votes in favor, compared with 30.4 percent against.
“This is wonderful,” said Ron Coleman, president of the Missouri Parks Association, which backed the amendment. “I think it means a secure source of funding in a tight budget climate for programs that have served our citizens well.”
The Parks and Soils Tax provides 75% of funding for Missouri state parks, including the Katy Trail State Park. The Missouri Bicycle Federation supports the Parks and Soils Tax.
