Columbia launches "PedNET Project"
Thursday, September 14, 2006
A Columbia Missourian article says:
A proposed logo is the first step in a budding campaign to encourage Columbians to walk, ride their bikes and use alternative forms of transportation.

The logo, created by IDPgroup President Michael Roach for the city’s Nonmotorized Transportation Pilot Project, has been approved by the program’s Promotion and Education subcommittee and forwarded to the City Council for review.

In 2005, Columbia received a $25 million federal grant to construct sidewalks, pedways and pedestrian and bicycle trails that connect transit stations, schools, residences, businesses, recreation areas and other community activity centers. The grant comes on the condition that the city do everything it can to gauge whether the projects make a difference by reducing automobile traffic and increasing the use of other modes of transportation.

For the logo, Roach chose red to represent buses, blue for wheelchairs, green for bicycles and yellow for pedestrians. IDPgroup labels the program “The PedNet Project."
