Wife of Attorney General Jay Nixon to send off BikeMO 2006 Saturday
Sunday, October 15, 2006
Ceremony will kickoff BikeMO 2006, MoBikeFed's Fall Foliage Bicycle Ride Oct 14th

Georganne Nixon, Attorney General Jay Nixon's wife, will be on hand to introduce Deputy Attorney General Karen Mitchell and to receive the over 2000 messages and signatures in support of connecting the Katy Trail to Kansas city

Trail supporters from around Missouri and the nation have been asking energy giant Ameren, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and the Attorney General's office to work together to link the Kansas City metro area to the Katy Trail.

Ameren controls the Rock Island Railroad, the most promising corridor to create the connection from Kansas City to the Katy Trail.

The Attorney General is leading negotiations with Ameren about repayment for damages caused by the failure of the Taum Sauk dam in December 2005.

Use of a section of the Rock Island Railroad could be part of the reparations paid.

The ceremony will take place at 8:45 AM, October 14th, 2006, at Holts Summit Plaza, 154 W Simon Blvd, Holts Summit, Missouri.

Holts Summit City Council member Pamela Murray will greet riders. Attorney General Jay Nixon's wife, Georganne, will introduce Deputy Attorney General Karen Mitchell. Missouri Bicycle Federation Executive Director Brent Hugh will present over 2000 messages and petition signatures to Nixon and Mitchell.

Mitchell will give a short speech and send off approximately 100-200 bicyclists assembled for BikeMO 2006 in a mass start at 9:00AM.

Bicycle and trails organizations, cities from around the state, and other interested organizations will have displays, literature, and information for BikeMO participants at the BikeMO fair.
