Bikers, hikers and skaters will get to take their first official laps Thursday when local elected officials cut the ribbon on the Ulysses S. Grant Trail extension of the Great Rivers Greenway.
Crestwood Mayor Roy Robinson, St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley, Oakland Mayor Paul Marti and Kirkwood Mayor Mike Swoboda will open the new extension at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Trailhead, located adjacent to the parking lot of the Sappington House, 1015 South Sappington Road, in Crestwood.
The two-mile stretch creates a continuous eight-mile paved trail through areas of unincorporated St. Louis County, Crestwood, Oakland and Kirkwood.
Grant's Trail leads from Reavis Barracks Road and Interstate 55, north to Pardee Road near Grant's Farm, through Crestwood, Oakland and into Kirkwood.
