It's expected to start in or near Kansas City and finish under the St. Louis Gateway Arch after a St. Louis Cardinals home game. Springfield, Rolla, Jefferson City, Columbia and Hannibal are tentative stage start/finish locations. I haven't cycled Missouri; however, I [hear] it lacks sustained climbs, but that it's not flat. In other words, it will be a race contested on continuous rollers... a great layout for Fast Freddie who was at the unveiling in St. Louis today. If the plans pan out, stages 2 through 4 will likely be the deciding stages with 1, 5 and 6 most likely being big sprint finishes. The highest point in Missouri is Taum Sauk Mountain at 1,772 feet; however, the highest point of the Tour is unknown. Expect stages along the ridge hugging roads of the Missouri Ozarks and old Route 66. Organizers said the race will have daily coverage on national TV. An announcement on the official route will be made in January.
The Tour of Georgia attracts 500,000 spectators each year and the Tour of Missouri is shooting for 300,000-400,000 its first year.
