New MoDOT policies for accommodating bicyclists and pedestrians have been published on the MoDOT web site:

• Bicycle Facilities (MSWord file)
  
• Pedestrian Facilities (MSWord file)
  
• MoDOT standards and drawings for bicycle lane, bicycle path, curved-vane grates, shoulder rumble strips, etc.

Through MoDOT's Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee, MOBikeFed and other bicycle/pedestrian user groups had input to the new standards at several points in the process--although, of course, not all of our suggestions were adopted.

Neverthless, the new MoDOT policies are by far the best that have ever been adopted by the agency and represent important advancements in many areas--including provisions for including bicycle and pedestrian accommodations on most MoDOT roads when conditions require or when local communities officially request or show evidence of need.
