STL's Great Rivers Greenway wins award
The
Great Rivers Greenway District, the public organization leading the development of a region-wide system of interconnected greenways, parks and trails known as the River Ring, won the “Sold on St. Louis Award” for Special Achievement from the St. Louis Association of REALTORS®.
The Sold on St. Louis Award, which recognizes businesses and organizations that have substantially contributed to the growing national awareness of the St. Louis region as a desirable location for business and family, will be presented to The Great Rivers Greenway District at an awards luncheon on February 21 at the Hyatt Regency Union Station.
As The River Ring takes shape, more than 50 miles of trails already have been constructed and in Spring 2007, 57 miles of additional on-street signed routes will be added. In addition to demonstrating environmental stewardship for our region’s natural resources, each project is also designed to encourage economic development both in new and older, established communities, and strengthen community bonds by promoting local pride, cross-cultural interaction, healthy lifestyles and education.
“The Great Rivers Greenway District is pleased to receive the Sold on St. Louis Award,” said David Fisher, Executive Director of the Great Rivers Greenway District. “By integrating real estate and economic development objectives into the use of vibrant public green space, the Great Rivers Greenway is not only creating a new landscape for the St. Louis region, we’re also inspiring communities such as Kansas City, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Houston to begin exploring options to create similar regional park and greenway initiatives.”
