Missouri Bicycle News

Congressman Lacy Clay represents the 1st District of Missouri, which takes in St. Louis City, University City, Maryland Heights, Ferguson, and Florissant.

Karen Karabell and John Sweet of the St. Louis Bicycle Federation met with Michelle Mitchell, one of Clay's legislative assistants on Friday, March 16th, 2007.

Sweet and Karabell asked for Clay's support for the Bicycle Commuter Act, and talked about this Spring's opening of the McKinley Bridge for bicyclists and pedestrians. This bridge is in Clay's district and there is a possibility Clay could attend the re-opening of the bridge. They also told Michelle that the City of St. Louis is applying for a "Bicycle Friendly Community" designation from the League of American Bicyclists, and sought Clay's support for this.

Clay joined the Congressional Bike Caucus in 2006, but for some reason he isn't listed in the current member listing. Sweet and Karabell have worked with Congressman Earl Blumenauer's office to fix this problem.
