A disabilities rights organization in the St. Louis area, Paraquad, has filed a suit against MoDOT based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The sidewalk on Manchester/Chouteau was passable by wheelchairs until new camera poles were installed at each intersection, blocking the sidewalk and making it impassable for wheelchairs.

In the TV station report, the reporter repeatedly asks the MoDOT St. Louis-area Chief Engineer Ed Hassinger whether the sidewalk is compliant with the ADA, and the engineer is (repeatedly) unable to answer in the affirmative.

A federal and state complaint is filed against MoDOT following our last You Paid For It. Paraquad is demanding the agency take action after the installation of new traffic cameras

"The whole reason you have a sidewalk is so that people can go places. And if you put something in front of a sidewalk that nobody can use, nobody can go places."

A simple concept that MoDOT seems not to understand . . .
