Complete Streets in Illinois
Thursday, October 18, 2007
Illinois now has a state-wide Complete Streets law that mandates all road construction projects in towns and cities be designed to accommodate all road users - motorists, bicyclist, pedestrians, the disabled, etc. The Illinois legislature recently overrode the governor's veto to put this into law.
The Missouri Bicycle Federation is working to bring Complete Streets to Missouri. The cities of St. Louis, St. Joseph, and Columbia already have municipal Complete Streets policy. This summer MBF lead a campaign to lobby MoDOT, and now we are working with legislators to introduce a state-wide Complete Streets law in the 2008 General Assembly.
