Settlement on Taum Sauk case close, says Ameren
Saturday, October 27, 2007
According to an AP article, a settlement between Ameren and the state of Missouri is close on the Taum Sauk issue:
Ameren Corp. is close to reaching a settlement with state officials that would end a civil lawsuit against the utility and repay damages associated with the Taum Sauk reservoir collapse.

Ameren spokeswoman Susan Gallagher said she would not comment, because all parties have agreed to keep settlement talks confidential.

Ameren has spent months negotiating with state agencies affected by the December 2005 reservoir collapse, which devastated much of the Johnson’s Shut-Ins state park and injured a family of five. Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon is suing Ameren and has joined the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Department of Conservation in negotiating a settlement.
All indications, including record of the early negotiations between the DNR and Ameren, are that a settlement with Ameren will include some kind of agreement for use of a section of the Rock Island railroad corridor as the Katy Trail connection to the Kansas City area.
