Complete the Katy: Now in Jefferson City
Monday, January 14, 2008

What a bicycle path on the Jefferson City Bridge might look like
The statewide effort to "Complete the Katy" by connecting it not only stateline to stateline but also to all the communities along its length took another step forward this week.

According to a Columbia Tribune article:
Trail advocates announced this week they have completed a fundraising drive that will help pay to extend a spur of the Katy Trail over the Missouri River into Jefferson City by widening a bridge there.

The Missouri River Pedestrian Bridge Project raised $300,000 to pay for some of the work. The total project costs will be about $6 million, counting a Missouri Department of Transportation grant that’s projected to cover 80 percent of the total.

About $900,000 in additional funds will come from the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department and other state agencies.

The improvements likely will take 18 months to complete.
This brings the number of major connectivity improvements along the Katy Trail to four this year:
  1. The Katy Connection to Kansas City
  2. The 11-mile Katy Extension east of St. Charles
  3. Bicycle path on the new Christopher S. Bond Bridge connects Hermann to the Katy Trail
  4. New bicycle path on the Missouri River bridge connects Jefferson City to the Katy Trail
