Bike Month and Walk/Bike to School Month resolutions move forward in Missouri House

Resolutions in support of
National Bike Month (May) and
International Walk/Bike to School Day (October) are moving forward in the Missouri House.
Both resolutions are sponsored by
Representative Mike Sutherland.
Both resolutions were referred to the Special Committee on Tourism, chaired by
Rep. B.J. Marsh, which gave them a "Do Pass" recommendation on April 17th.
They then moved forward to the Rules Committee, chaired by
Rep. Shannon Cooper, where they received a "Do Pass" recommendation yesterday.
The next step is to have the resolutions approved by the full House of Representatives. That could happen any time between now and the end of the legislative session, depending on the House calendar and decisions by House leadership.

Walk and Bicycle to School Day resolution (HCR 34).
These resolutions help by giving official support for National Bike Month and Walk/Bike to School Month activities in Missouri. These are two of our most effective promotional activities to get more people out and enjoying Missouri by walking and bicycling.
In addition, moving these resolutions through the legislative process helps educate our legislators about the importance of bicycling and identifies bicycling and walking supporters as a political force that legislators should be aware of.
Promoting more walking and bicycling and building a movement around walking bicycling are two important parts of
MoBikeFed's Vision of Active Transportation in Missouri.
In particular,
our goals are to greatly increase the number of communities and individuals participating in National Bike Month and the number of schools and students participating in Bike/Walk to School Day activities.
